Nursing Theorist Project: OREM’S SELF CARE THEORY This assignment will assist you in achieving course objective #3: Apply nursing theory to nursing practice. Students will work in assigned groups to complete this assignment. The group will write a 8-10 page paper (not including graphic, title or reference pages) in APA (7th ed.) format using a minimum of 3 scholarly resources AND a primary source. When discussing the nursing theory, the primary source must be used – 10 points will be deducted from the paper final grade if primary source is not used where appropriate. Paper Specific requirements: 1. Introduction: • Importance of nursing theory (in general, not selected theory) to the nursing profession • Brief introduction to selected theory and how it may be useful • Paper purpose statement (see APA Manual) 2. Summary of Selected Nursing Theory • Discuss the category (grand, mid-range, practice) and why it’s considered this type of theory • What led the theorist to develop his/her nursing theory (nursing profession at the time, theorist’s specific experience)? • Identify how the metaparadigms of nursing are defined within the theory [theory primary source only] • Review the key concepts of the theory with a brief discussion of how they relate theory [theory primary source only] 3. Application of the Theory to General Nursing Practice • Using ANA Standards 1 thru 6, describe how the theory helps nurses with the client/patient-nurse relationship, organize or collect assessment data, make diagnoses, choose interventions, and evaluate care.
