[Verified Answer]: A 50 year old man was delayed in getting CPR…

A 50 year old man was delayed in getting CPR post cardiac arrest. He was successfully resuscitated and taken to the Catheterization lab for angioplasty and stenting. After Therapeutic Hypothermia was completed he is still not waking up or making any purposeful movement. His EKG is showing brain death. He did not have an advance directive in place, however he did indicate on his license hew ould like to be an organ donor. His adult daughter knows his wishes to donate his organs, but the man’s siblings and mother do not want him to be an organ donor. He currently has a live-in girlfriend who is siding with the siblings. The donation process is being delayed for several days because of this ethical dilemma, and resources are being spent to keep this man living on a ventilator. Who has the right to make the decision for organ donation? What is considered brain death? Who approaches the family in regard to organ donation? What right does the daughter have? What right does the family members have and what right does the girlfriend have to make the decision to have the patient become an organ donor?
