create a power pointe Evidence Based Practice: Infection Control Infection control is a set of practices to prevent infections, especially in healthcare settings. It is essential to practice infection control to avoid the transmission of a deadly disease that can potentially hurt many people, especially those immuno-compromised who have an impaired immune system to fight any diseases. In nursing practice, how does the implementation of the Infection Control Link Nurse Program or ICLN compared to traditional compliance strategies affect workplace culture and compliance rates among nurses? The COVID-19 pandemic was a good example of why IPC is crucial to all healthcare settings. The transmission of the virus was wide in a short period, and it did harm a lot of people, especially those people who have more co morbidities. The pandemic also significantly impacted our healthcare workers, who were at the forefront of the battle against the virus. Many were exposed to the virus due to inadequate protection, and the shortage of supplies further exacerbated the situation. This highlights the urgent need for improved IPC measures to protect our healthcare workers and prevent similar crises. The World Health Organization launched its first global report on infection prevention and control, revealing that good IPC programs can reduce healthcare infection by 70%. With a good IPC program, it can tremendously benefit the community. It will improve health outcomes as the patient remains free from any transmitted diseases while staying in the hospital, or those with a low immune system can freely go out without worrying about getting infected by any transmitted disease. The cost of hospitalization will decrease tremendously, as will the out-of-pocket expense. Safety will also prevented not only for the patients but also for our healthcare personnel. With good IPC, healthcare facilities can save money, especially on the cost of PPE (WHO, 2022). Summary of Research Article The ICLN program does not affect improving compliance for nurses with standard precautions. However, the study stands out because the ICLPN program improves nurses’ compliance with hand hygiene. The knowledge gained in this article is that there are a lot of resources out there that help nurses comply with standard precautions and hand hygiene, like the ICLPN program, which positively impacts nurses’ adherence to hand hygiene practice. Hand hygiene is not just a routine, it is a critical practice in preventing healthcare-associated infections and ensuring patient safety. Shamsi and the rest of the team used a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-post-test design conducted with 154 clinical nurses who worked in different wards of a tertiary referral teaching hospital in Iran (Ghorbanmovahhed et al., 2023). In the study’s findings, nursing compliance with standard precautions in both interventions pre- and post is low and was noted below the optimal level. Although there is a fall short in some crucial areas of compliance, its focus on hand hygiene through the ICLPN initiative represents an improvement.
